Yup, the date is set and the doors to our new home at 108 Orchard Street will officially open on May 22, 2013 - just a stone's throw away (literally) from our longtime location across Delancey.
After 77 and a half years at 118 Orchard Street, our iconic building was sold for development. Since Grandpa Hyman began selling eyewear from a pushcart in 1915, leaving the Lower East Side was not an option.
Incorporating eight decades worth of quirky and historical tchotchkes, treasures and furnishings moved across the street from 118, the new Orchard Street Shop is the perfect amalgamation of old and new. And at nearly 2200 square feet, the new ground floor space has plenty of room to house the same eyewear and same eyecare found at 118, as well as The MOSCOT Gallery & Music Space, which brings the neighborhood an intimate venue for live music, and a showcase for the Company's historical photos and memorabilia.
To commemorate the historic opening, we will remain open an extra two hours on Thursday, May 23rd, from 7PM to 9PM, offering friends and neighbors a chance to visit the Shop and shop - at a 15% discount from 6PM to 9PM - something that won't likely happen again for another 77 and a half years.
118 Orchard remains open through May 19th. Customers should visit our 14th Street or our Court Street Shop May 20th and 21st.
